Biography – Jonathan Moraitis

I graduated with honors from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Accounting.  As the youngest of a big accounting family, I began my professional life with the very largest of the international accounting firms.  After qualifying as a CPA,CA I decided I wanted to work in a more hands on way with small-to-medium sized clients.  Having worked in auditing I wanted to change to an area of accounting where the accountant is more of an advisor that is part of the team rather than a necessary evil.  So I made the move to a small accounting firm where I was able to work closely with clients providing more intimate and value-added services.

Having to provide more meaningful advice, particularly in the area of tax savings and planning, meant needing to stay up-to-date on professional development.  Attending professional courses, which have proved invaluable in providing unique insight to clients, is something I enjoy as it is both interesting and keeps me abreast of an ever-changing profession and tax landscape.  As I continued to upgrade my skills, I saw an opportunity to fulfill a long-time dream of mine and since 2008 I have had the pleasure of running my own practice.

On a personal level I have a wide range of interests, including traveling to some of the world’s most exotic destinations, such as Iceland, Egypt, Japan, Peru, and my family’s homeland Greece.  This helps recharge my creative batteries.  I have often had the pleasure of combining travel with my other passion, soccer, taking in matches in various leagues across Europe.
